In Memoriam: Harry T. Fledderman

CBA mourns the passing of Harry T. Fledderman (April 24, 1940 - June 27, 2026) who has died at the age of 86.  A member of CBA since 1978, Harry was a world renowned first century Christian theologian. After entering the Jesuit Novitiate at Grand Coteau, he obtained his undergraduate degree at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. He went on to graduate from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkley, California with a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies. Fledderman wrote influencial works in Biblical textual criticism, including Q: A Reconstruction and Commentary (2005) and Mark and Q: A Study of the Overlap Texts (1995). Before his retirement, he was a Professor of Religious Studies at Alverno College. As a 30 year member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Milwaukee, Harry taught catechesis and biblical study classes. He taught similar classes at Tepeyac's Summer Institute in El Paso, Texas. 

On top of being a CBA member for 47 years, Harry was also a member of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature. He was a friend and mentor to many.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 3722 S. 58th St., Milwaukee, starting at 10AM, followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 11AM. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 3801 W. Morgan Ave., Milwaukee.
