CBA WOMEN AND GENDER CONFERENCE

Call for Papers

The Catholic Biblical Association invites abstracts for presentations for a second conference on Women and Gender in the Bible, hosted online September 18 (ca. 1-6 p.m. EST). We are particularly interested in presentations that use contemporary gender theory and/or feminist and queer historiography to explore biblical texts and related topics and papers that explore the intersections of gender with other critical lenses of inquiry. We conceptualize biblical texts broadly, inclusive of Second Temple texts not traditionally included in Jewish or Christian canons or translations and trajectories of biblical texts. We also welcome papers which explore the social worlds in which these texts were created.

This conference again will partner with LEAF to host a session dedicated to presentations that use combinations of literary, ecological, and feminist approaches. This session particularly welcomes presentations that incorporate non-traditional modes for scholarly output—an excellent session to propose something other than a standard paper presentation!

Attendees and presenters are not required to be members of the CBA or LEAF, and we seek a broad range of scholarly perspectives. Presenters should estimate a paper long enough for a presentation of around 20 minutes

Students who are not yet PhD candidates are welcome to apply, please send a draft of the paper proposed to cba-office@cua.edu upon submission.

Abstracts should be 300 words and are due no later than June 12, 2026. Decisions will be communicated by August 1, 2026.
