In Memoriam: Gay Byron

Announcements,

CBA mourns the passing of Rev. Dr. Gay Byron on December 6, 2023 at the age of 62. She had just been voted into CBA membership the previous year. At the time of her death, Dr. Byron was a distinguished Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, DC., a position she held since 2012. Prior to moving to DC, Dr. Byron held the position of Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins at Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.

In addition to the M.Div., M.Phil., and Ph.D. received from Union Theological Seminary in New York City, she earned an M.B.A. from Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Byron's work extended to the exploration of the Pauline epistles, the intersection of race and ethnicity in early Christian writings, and the origins of Christianity in ancient Ethiopia.
