Death of Pope Francis
Date postedApril 21, 2025
The Catholic Biblical Association of America is deeply saddened by the death of Pope Francis who died on Easter Monday at the age of 88.
He was the first Latin American and Jesuit Pope in the history of the Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his strong voice for the poor and striving for economic and social justice. His voice was heard on the world stage on issues such as war, migration, and climate change. In addition, he attempted numerous reforms in the Church amongst the clergy including adopting a compassionate and welcoming attitude toward divorced and gay Catholics. Although many thought he should do much more, we celebrate what he accomplished in the twelve short years as Leader of the Church. We are thankful for the Pope's commitment to reconciling the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities and we pray that his memory will
forever be a blessing. May he rest in peace and his soul rise to glory.
