CBA Welcomes an Unbound Book Review of

Luke and Acts with(in) Second Temple Judaism

Edited by: Isaac W. Oliver, Jocelyn McWhirter, and Joshua Scott

A part of CBA's series of free virtual events which draw together scholars from diverse fields to discuss a recent publication through reflection on specific questions.

1) What is most illuminating about reading Luke and Acts within Second Temple Judaism, and where might this approach raise further questions? How do the different essays work together to deepen our understanding of Luke and
 Acts in their Jewish world?
2) How convincing is the case that Luke-Acts emerges from a deeply Jewish context — perhaps even from a Jewish author — and how does that affect the presentation of Jewish characters, institutions, and practices?
3) How does this approach reshape our understanding of early Jewish-Christian relations, particularly in a post-70 context where the temple had been destroyed but Second Temple Judaism remained an essential frame of reference?
After a brief introduction to the work from Isaac W. Oliver, Jocelyn McWhirter, and Joshua Scott we welcome reviews from Brian Gamel, Lilly Davis, Julian Sieber, and Steve Walton.
