CBA Welcomes an Unbound Book Review of

An African Introduction to the New Testament

Edited by Ferdinand I. Okorie, Elizabeth W. Mburu, and Abeneazer G. Urga

A part of CBA's series of free virtual events which draw together scholars from diverse fields to discuss a recent publication through reflection on specific questions.

In this Unbound Book Review, we will gather to reflect on the following questions:

1) How does the African contextual approach reshape the way familiar New Testament texts are read and understood? What might readers gain or risk losing when interpretation is rooted in a specific cultural experience?
2) In what ways does this book contribute to the debate that every interpretation is contextual, and challenges the assumption that New Testament interpretation is primarily a Western academic enterprise?
3) The authors frequently connect biblical interpretation to lived African realities, including community, suffering, and hope. How does this emphasis affect the way Scripture functions for faith communities today?
After a brief introduction to the work from Ferdinand I. Okorie, we welcome reviews from Paul Ọlátúbọ̀sún Àdajà and Annette Potgieter.
