CBA Welcomes an Unbound Book Review of Samuel B. Johnson's
The Life of Jesus in the Writings of Origen of Alexandria
A part of CBA's series of free virtual events which draw together scholars from diverse fields to discuss a recent publication through reflection on specific questions.
1) How does Johnson’s study revise prevailing accounts of Origen’s Gospel exegesis?
2) What is at stake in Johnson’s argument that Origen understood the evangelists themselves as interpreters of Jesus’s life?
3) How might Johnson’s reading of Origen reshape contemporary conversations about Gospel criticism and theological interpretation?
After a brief introduction to the work from Samuel B. Johnson we welcome reviews from Charles Hughes-Huff, Annaline Cely, and Michael Barber.
