CBA Welcomes an Unbound Book Review of Dale C. Allison's
Interpreting Jesus
A part of CBA's series of free virtual events which draw together scholars from diverse fields to discuss a recent publication through reflection on specific questions.
1) What is the best way to integrate miracle traditions into a historical portrait of Jesus without smuggling in either anti-supernatural bias or confessional affirmation?
2) Allison argues that typology can be lived (performed/inhabited) rather than merely read off texts: what methodological controls should we use to distinguish plausible “lived typology” in Jesus’ self-understanding or praxis from retrospective Christian scripturalization?
After a brief introduction to the book from Allison, we welcome reviews from Rafael Rodríguez and Jeremiah Coogan.
